Research Projects

The laboratory is devoted to research and teaching in the area of high-performance computing, ranging from fundamental theories to practical applications such as cluster, grid, and GPU computing, as well as medical image processing. We are educating young people to become specialists in software development through research collaboration with companies and universities.

General purpose computation using GPUs

From grid computing to cloud computing

In this project, we aim to accelerate scientific computations using GPUs, which are commodity chips designed for graphics applications. The challenge we face here is to explore the broad range of applications beyond graphics.

Grid technology allows us to integrate computers into a virtually connected supercomputer. Using this technology, we accelerate the compute-intensive processing required for cloud computing. The challenge we face here is to design massive computers to obtain high scalability and availability.

Visualization for large-scale four-dimensional datasets

Parallel heterogeneous multi-scale biophysical simulations

We are developing visualization techniques to support the intuitive understanding of time-series, three-dimensional data, such as X-ray CT data. The challenge we face here is to achieve real-time processing of at least ten frames per second for datasets larger than 10 GB.

We have developed a parallel large scale multi-physics simulation system called Flint, aiming to simulate the entire human physiome in silico. We mainly focus on automatic parallelization.

全体の計算をいくつかに分割し,それらを,いつ,どのプロセッサで実行する かを決めるタスクスケジューリングの問題に取り組んでいます.グリッドやク ラスタのための効率のよいスケジューリングが求められています.

Googleに代表されるような,ウェブサイトに対する全文検索や画像検索システ ムにおける検索時間の短縮や検索精度の向上を目指しています.膨大な量のマ ルチメディアデータの中から必要な情報を見つけ出す技術は不可欠です.
